How 45 days are counted

Day 1 is tomorrow; day 45 is the answer. Forty-five days are 6 full weeks plus 3 days, so the answer always falls 3 days later in the week than today (from a Wednesday, a Saturday). Weekends and holidays count as ordinary days. If the wording is “45 business days” or “45 working days”, the date is about nine weeks away instead; switch the calculator to Business days to count those.

Forty-five calendar days and 45 business days are more than three weeks apart, so it matters which one a notice or contract means. Columbus Day, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving all fall inside the business-day count from this date.

Common 45-day periods

• Return and price-match windows: some retailers allow 45 days; the last day to return is usually the date shown, and a weekend date does not move it.
• Notices and responses: contracts, leases and agency letters sometimes give 45 days to respond; check whether they say calendar or business days, and whether the count starts on the date of the letter or the day you received it.
• Billing: a “net 45” invoice is due 45 days after the invoice date, not after the day you opened it; enter the invoice date in the date calculator.
