How to convert hours to days

Divide the hours by 24:

days = hours ÷ 24

100 h ÷ 24 = 4.17 days. The result also shows days and hours — 4 days 4 hours — because the decimal .17 is a fraction of a day, not hours. To go the other way, type days into the second field.

Calendar days or work days?

A calendar day has 24 hours; a work day, usually 8. The same number of hours means very different spans:

Paid-time-off balances are usually kept in hours, and so are many sick-leave and overtime banks; divide by your scheduled hours per day to get work days off. To total hours from shifts, use the hours calculator.

Days, hours and minutes

The result breaks a total of hours into whole days and the hours left over. If the hours have a decimal, the minutes follow from the hours line: 50.5 hours is 2 days 2.5 hours, which is 2 days 2 hours 30 minutes. For uptime, flight time, a fasting window or a long project, that breakdown is easier to read than 2.1 days. To turn minutes into hours first, use minutes to hours.

Shipping, rentals and waiting periods are often written in hours: “within 48 hours” is two days from the moment it starts, not two calendar dates. A 72-hour rental picked up Friday at 10 a.m. is due Monday at 10 a.m. A “24-hour” turnaround on a Friday afternoon usually means Monday to an office that is closed on weekends, so ask whether the hours are calendar or business hours.
