How 100 days are counted

Day 1 is tomorrow; day 100 is the answer. 100 days are 14 full weeks plus 2 days, so the answer always falls 2 days later in the week than today (from a Wednesday, a Friday). If you count today as day 1 — as many challenges and school calendars do — the 100th day is one day earlier.

100 days, 14 weeks or 100 business days?

The difference between the first two rows is the most common source of off-by-one errors in countdowns.

Common 100-day milestones

• The 100th day of school: U.S. schools count school days, not calendar days, so the 100th day comes in late winter; count from the first day with Business days in the date calculator and subtract breaks.
• Challenges and goals: a 100-day plan ends about three and a third months after it starts.
• First 100 days: a common benchmark for a new job or a new term in office.

Checking the date by hand

Count whole weeks first, then the days left over: 100 days are 14 weeks and 2 days. On a wall calendar, move 14 rows down from today, then 2 days to the right, wrapping to the next row past the edge. That is quicker and less error-prone than counting single days. The table above also lists the weekdays and the federal holidays you pass, which matters when a deadline has to fall on a business day or an office is closed.
