Millimeters to Feet (mm to ft)
A foot is exactly 304.8 mm, so 1,000 mm is 3.28 ft — 3 ft 3 3/8 in — and a 2,440 mm sheet is 8 ft 1/16 in. The result shows feet, inches and fractions.

How to convert millimeters to feet
Divide the millimeters by 304.8:
ft = mm ÷ 304.8
1,000 mm ÷ 304.8 = 3.28 ft. The divisor is exact: an inch is 25.4 mm and a foot is 12 inches. Because tape measures read in feet, inches and sixteenths, the result also shows 3 ft 3 3/8 in to the nearest 1/16 inch, along with inches and meters. To go the other way, multiply feet by 304.8.

Metric sheets, boards and fixtures
| Item | Millimeters | Feet and inches |
|---|---|---|
| Kitchen cabinet module | 600 mm | 1 ft 11 5/8 in |
| Metric plywood sheet | 1,220 × 2,440 mm | 4 ft 1/16 in × 8 ft 1/16 in |
| Interior door (Europe) | 2,040 mm | 6 ft 8 5/16 in |
| Shower tray | 900 mm | 2 ft 11 7/16 in |
| Ceiling height | 2,500 mm | 8 ft 2 7/16 in |
Metric building products are close to, but not the same as, U.S. sizes: a 1,220 × 2,440 mm sheet is 1/16 inch larger each way than a 4 × 8 ft sheet, while a 600 mm cabinet is 3/8 inch narrower than a 24-inch one. In a run of cabinets, those fractions add up, so convert each piece and add with the feet and inches calculator.
Rounding to the tape measure
Most U.S. tape measures mark sixteenths of an inch, and the nearest 1/16 is the reading the result gives. Smaller millimeter differences disappear in that rounding: 305 mm and 304.8 mm both read 1 ft 0 in. When cutting several pieces from one board, add the exact millimeters first and convert the total, rather than rounding each piece, so the error does not build up — a run of five 600 mm cabinets is 3,000 mm, or 9 ft 10 1/8 in.
Reading drawings in millimeters
Architectural and engineering drawings from most countries give every dimension in millimeters with no unit written: “2440” means 2,440 mm. Convert the overall dimensions to feet for a sense of size, and keep the millimeters for cutting. A room drawn as 4200 × 3600 is 13 ft 9 3/8 in by 11 ft 9 3/4 in. For inches as the answer, see mm to inches; for meters, mm to cm and cm to meters; and for the reverse, feet to cm.
