How to convert ounces to teaspoons
Multiply the fluid ounces by 6:
tsp = fl oz × 6
2 fl oz × 6 = 12 tsp. The factor is exact in U.S. customary measure: a fluid ounce is 2 tablespoons and a tablespoon is 3 teaspoons. The result also shows tablespoons and milliliters. To go the other way, divide teaspoons by 6, or use tsp to oz.

Why some calculators say 5.75
A popular converter returns 1 oz = 5.75 tsp. It treats “oz” as an ounce of weight — 28.35 grams — and converts it to the volume of that much water. A fluid ounce is a volume, 29.57 mL, so it is 6 teaspoons exactly; 28.35 g of water fills only 5.75. If your recipe or bottle says “fl oz”, or the ounce measures a liquid, use 6. If it is a dry ingredient weighed in ounces, teaspoons depend on the ingredient: an ounce of salt is about 5 teaspoons, an ounce of ground cinnamon about 11. For weights, see oz to grams.
Bottles, extracts and doses
| Bottle | Fluid ounces | Teaspoons |
|---|---|---|
| Dropper bottle | 1 fl oz | 6 tsp |
| Vanilla extract | 2 fl oz | 12 tsp |
| Hot sauce | 5 fl oz | 30 tsp |
| Syrup bottle | 8 fl oz | 48 tsp |
A recipe that uses 1/2 teaspoon of an extract gets 24 uses from a 2-ounce bottle. Liquid medicine is dosed in milliliters with the cup or syringe in the box, not with kitchen teaspoons; this page converts units only. For milliliters, see mL to tsp and tsp to mL.
Scaling a recipe
Small amounts in a large-batch recipe are often written in ounces — 0.5 ounce of vanilla, 0.25 ounce of lemon juice — which home cooks measure with spoons. Half an ounce is 3 teaspoons, a quarter ounce is 1 1/2 teaspoons. When halving a recipe, convert to teaspoons first: half of 1/4 ounce is 3/4 teaspoon, which is easy to measure, while 1/8 ounce is not. To convert all the ounces in a recipe at once, open Convert a list of values and paste them one per line.
Ounces, tablespoons and cups
Two tablespoons make a fluid ounce and 8 fluid ounces make a cup, so a cup holds 48 teaspoons. For tablespoons as the answer, use tablespoons to ounces the other way; for cups, ounces to cups.
