Grams to Pounds (g to lbs)
A pound is 453.59 grams, so 500 g is 1.10 lb (1 lb 1.6 oz) and 1,000 g is 2.20 lb. The result also shows pounds and ounces.

How to convert grams to pounds
Divide the grams by 453.59237, or multiply by 0.00220462:
lb = g ÷ 453.59237
500 g ÷ 453.59 = 1.10 lb. The divisor is exact: the pound is defined as 0.45359237 kilogram. Because 1.10 lb is hard to picture, the result also gives pounds and ounces — 1 lb 1.64 oz — and ounces alone. To go the other way, type pounds into the second field, or use pounds to grams.

Package sizes in grams and pounds
Imported foods and recipes from outside the U.S. give weights in grams. Common sizes and their U.S. equivalents:
| Package | Grams | Pounds | Pounds and ounces |
|---|---|---|---|
| Butter block (Europe) | 250 g | 0.55 lb | 8.8 oz |
| Pasta bag | 500 g | 1.10 lb | 1 lb 1.6 oz |
| Coffee bag | 340 g | 0.75 lb | 12 oz |
| Flour bag (Europe) | 1,000 g | 2.20 lb | 2 lb 3.3 oz |
| Rice bag | 2,000 g | 4.41 lb | 4 lb 6.5 oz |
When a recipe calls for “1 lb” and the package says 500 g, the package is 10% heavier — usually close enough for cooking, not for baking.
A quick rule for your head
Divide grams by 1,000 to get kilograms, then multiply by 2.2: 750 g is 0.75 kg, and 0.75 × 2.2 = 1.65 lb (exact: 1.653 lb). For small amounts, ounces are easier: 28 grams is about an ounce, so 100 g is roughly 3.5 oz. For ounces as the main answer, use grams to ounces; for kilograms, grams to kg.
Grams in recipes
American recipes use cups and pounds; recipes from almost everywhere else weigh ingredients in grams, which is more precise. When you convert a whole recipe, convert every weight the same way rather than mixing rounded and exact figures: 225 g of butter is 0.50 lb (one cup of butter is 227 g), and 450 g of ground meat is 0.99 lb, practically a pound. For flour and sugar, a kitchen scale set to grams avoids the conversion altogether; for liquids measured in milliliters, see mL to ounces.
Shipping and kitchen scales
Most digital scales switch between g and lb with one button, but shipping rates and baggage limits use whole pounds rounded up: a 1,100 g parcel is 2.43 lb and is billed as 3 lb. If a scale shows “1.10 lb”, the decimal is a fraction of a pound — 0.10 lb is 1.6 ounces, not 10 ounces.
