Milliliters to Ounces (mL to fl oz)

Divide milliliters by 29.57: 100 mL is 3.38 fl oz, 500 mL is 16.9 fl oz and a 750 mL wine bottle is 25.4 fl oz.

How to convert milliliters to fluid ounces

Divide the milliliters by 29.5735:

U.S. fluid ounces = milliliters ÷ 29.5735295625

750 mL ÷ 29.5735 = 25.36 fl oz. Multiplying by 0.033814 gives the same result. To go the other way, multiply fluid ounces by 29.5735, or use the ounces to mL converter.

Bottle sizes in ounces

Milliliters U.S. fl oz Common item
50 mL 1.69 miniature bottle, small cosmetics
100 mL 3.38 travel-size bottle
250 mL 8.45 small juice box
330 mL 11.16 European soda or beer can
355 mL 12 U.S. soda can
375 mL 12.68 half bottle of wine
500 mL 16.91 water bottle
750 mL 25.36 wine or spirits bottle
1,000 mL 33.81 1-liter bottle
1,500 mL 50.72 magnum
2,000 mL 67.63 2-liter soda bottle

A 750 mL bottle of wine holds about five 5-fl-oz glasses — the serving size the NIH uses for a standard drink of wine. To convert a list of sizes, open Convert a list of values and paste the milliliters one per line. For liters and gallons, see liters to gallons.

Carry-on liquids: 100 mL

The TSA allows liquids in carry-on bags in containers of up to 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). 100 mL is 3.38 fl oz, so a container marked 100 mL meets the rule; one marked 3.4 fl oz holds 100.55 mL. What matters is the size printed on the container, not how much is left inside.

Milliliters in the kitchen

Metric recipes measure liquids in milliliters; U.S. measuring cups and spoons are marked in fluid ounces, cups and spoons. Handy equivalents:

Milliliters U.S. measure
5 mL 1 teaspoon (about)
15 mL 1 tablespoon (about)
60 mL 1/4 cup (2.03 fl oz)
125 mL 1/2 cup (4.23 fl oz)
250 mL 1 cup (8.45 fl oz)

A U.S. cup is 236.6 mL, so a 250 mL “metric cup” is about 6% larger. The difference rarely matters for soups or sauces, but in baking it adds up across several cups, so convert each liquid amount rather than swapping cup for cup. Nutrition labels round a cup to 240 mL. For medicine, use the oral syringe or dosing cup that comes with the product rather than kitchen spoons.

Milliliters and grams

Milliliters measure volume, grams measure weight. For water, 1 mL weighs 1 g, so 500 mL of water is about 500 g (17.6 oz of weight); for oil, syrup or flour, the weight per milliliter is different. If a recipe gives grams, use grams to ounces instead.

Frequently asked questions

How many oz is 100 mL?

3.381 U.S. fluid ounces. In UK fluid ounces it is 3.52.

How many oz is 500 mL?

16.91 fl oz — that is why 500 mL bottles in the U.S. are labeled 16.9 fl oz.

How many oz is a 750 mL bottle?

25.36 fl oz, the standard wine bottle. A 1.5 L magnum is 50.72 fl oz.

Is 100 mL 3.4 oz?

Close: 100 mL is 3.38 fl oz, which the TSA rounds to 3.4 ounces for its carry-on liquid limit. A 3.4 fl oz container holds 100.55 mL.

How many oz is 1 liter?

33.81 U.S. fluid ounces — a little more than a quart (32 fl oz).
